Drug Uses
Sumycin 500mg is used to treat many different bacterial infections, such as urinary tract infections, acne, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and others.
How Taken
The usual daily dose of Sumycin 500mg is 1g to 2g. Drink a full glass of water with each dose. Do not break, chew, or crush the Sumycin. Your doctor may increase the dosage in case of severe infections. Sumycin should be taken at the same time each day to maintain an even level of the medicine in your system. You should continue therapy for at least 24 to 48 hours after the symptoms and fever have subsided.
Warnings/Precautions
Talk to your physician before taking this medicine if you are hypersensitive to tetracyclines. Using Sumycin in the absence of a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection or a prophylactic indication is unlikely to provide benefit and increases the risk of the development of drug-resistant bacteria.
Missed Dose
Do not skip doses but make sure that you complete your entire prescription of Sumycin, even if you start feeling better. This will ensure that the infection is completely treated.
Possible Side Effects
Side effects you may experience may include: anorexia, epigastric distress, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bulky loose stools, stomatitis, sore throat, glossitis, black hairy tongue, dysphagia, hoarseness, enterocolitis, and inflammatory lesions (with candidal overgrowth) in the anogenital region.
More Information
If you are undergoing long-term therapy, periodic laboratory evaluation of organ system function, including renal, hepatic, and hematopoietic systems, should be performed.
